Information for Corporate Members

The Centre for Exploration Targeting (CET) is a unique applied research enterprise which takes up the challenge of increasing the discovery rate in mineral exploration and the quality of discoveries, without relying on substantsial increases in exploration expenditure.

The CET recognises that recent profound changes in the mining industry have widened the gap between the outpus of current research and the technologies that indusrty needs to increase the discovery rate.

This gap provides a market opportunity for the Centre to produce applied research and innovation outcomes which deliver practical integrated targeting tools and techniques to improve the risk : reward ratio in exploration.

Innovation and Applied Research

The Centre's strong research team has multidisciplinary and multicommodity expertise, including one of the worlds' largest nickel research groups. Individual researchers work accross disciplines and commodities. The multidisciplinary focus will produce markedly better outcomes for projects and ensure that the necessary breadth and depth of technical experience is available to meet the challenges facing the exploration industry.

The Centre's current research emphasis is on the following five key streams:

  • Iron

  • Nickel

  • Gold

  • Risk Assessment and Value

  • Exploration Technologies

However, projects in other commodities will be pursued based on indusrty demand. Research outcomes and expertise are being combined to provide comprehensive understanding of the 4D evolution of host terranes, the position of the respective mineral systems within this framework, the extraction of mappable criteria that can be applied to exploration strategies within a business risk framework at all scales, and the development of tools and techniques to more effectively target major mineral deposits.

Training Courses

In order to facilitate the transfer of technology, short courses and post graduate courses are already available and continue to be developed through CET and the University.
