South African Field Trip 2010

Dates: 11-25 September 2010

South Africa is one of the best endowed mineral-resource regions on Earth with an exciting and diverse range of deposit environments. This field trip includes visits to the following deposits and surrounding areas of geological interest; Rustenberg Pt Mine (Merensky Reef, UG2 chromite), Planesberg Complex (alkaline volcano) Vergengoeg and Buffalo flurite mines, Platreef mine, Bushveld Complex (Pt-Pd), Jagdlust Chromite mine, Driekop Pt pipe, classic exposures of the UG1 (Dwars River Cu mines), Mystique, Priemer Diamond Pipe, Witwatersrand Mine, as well as and a stop at the Kruger National Park.

Presenters: Emeritus Professor David Groves (UWA) & Dr Marco Fiorentini (CET), CET staff and local deposit experts. Fee: approx $2200 enrolment fee for MSc students plus approx $5000 (accommodation, food and travel costs). Cost to be confirmed closer to course commencement.
