Thesis: A benchmark study in assessing Australia’s nickel endowment
Summary of research
The Norseman-Wiluna Greenstone Belt, Yilgarn Craton, Western Australia contains more than 60% of the world’s known komatiite-hosted nickel sulphide resources. My PhD research aims to model the spatio-statistical distribution of known nickel sulphide deposits, estimate the number of undiscovered nickel sulphide deposits and the quantity of undiscovered nickel endowment in the Norseman-Wiluna Greenstone Belt. Spatio-statistical and endowment assessment methods developed for this increasingly mature world-class nickel sulphide province may constitute a benchmark approach adaptable to similar, less well known komatiite provinces elsewhere.
